ما هو الشعار؟
الصورة في أعلى الصفحة تسمى glider. و هي نموذج من محاكاة رياضية اسمها لعبة الحياة. في هذه المحاكاة, بعض القواعد البسيطة عن خواص النقاط على الرسم التخطيطي تخرج لنا ظواهر معقده رائعة. جليدر هي أبسط نموذج للحياة و الأسرع في التعرف عليه من كل نماذج الحياة.
لماذا يجب أن يكون هناك شعار؟
مجتمع الهاكرز هو مجتمع مبني على الثقه التي تكونت على الانترنت بين أعضاءه. لقد تعلمنا منذ عام 1991 أن وجود شعارات للمجتمع مهمة للهاكرز كما هي مهمة لأي شخص آخر فهي تساعد على التعرف على بعضنا البعض و التعاون مع بعضنا البعض بسهولة. الشعار مهم للاختلاط
استخدام الشعار لا يعني فقط أنك من محبي اللينكس أو من مبرمجي البيرل أو عضو في أي مجموعة من مجموعات الهاكرز التي بدأت بالنجاح منذ منتصف التسعينات. هذه مجرد تطورات حديثه لما كان قد بدأ منذ عقود من الزمن. منذ بدايات الميكروكمبيوتر و تجاربه في بداية السبعينات و بداية مطوري اليونكس و مهندسي ARPANET في 1969 و هاكرز SPACEWAR في جامعة MIT في 1961 .
الهاكرز بالمعنى العام هم من بنوا نظم اليونكس و الانترنت و الويب كما هو الآن، أحلامنا بالحرية هي ما غيرت العالم الذي يعيش فيه الجميع الآن. راجع كيف تصبح هاكر لتعلم بالتفصيل ما أعني. إذا كنت تجد نفسك موافقا على هذا الكلام و أنت تقرأه الآن فأنت ممن يجب أن يستخدموا الشعار.
لماذا هذا الشعار؟
جليدر شعار مناسب على عدة مستويات. بداية بالتاريخ: لعبة الحياة نشرت لأول مره في Scientific American في 1970. لقد ولدت تقريبا في نفس الوقت مع اليونكس و الانترنت و قد بهرت الهاكرز منذ ذلك الوقت.
The glider fulfils the criteria for a good logo. It's simple, bold, hard to mistake for anything else, and easy to print on a mug or T-shirt. It could be varied, combined with other emblems, or modified and infinitely repeated for use as a background.
But what if the wrong people start using it?
A lot of people think this emblem will become worse than useless because script kiddies, crackers and wannabes will be the predominant ones to use it. Yes, that is a risk — but other emblems, like the peace sign or the A-for-anarchy, that have similar risks have retained a lot of utility. If it helps, I've gotten a lot of email from people picking up on it that I know to be hard-core hackers, and I've seen almost no abuse of it.
Will you carry my slightly different idea for an emblem?
Probably not. Part of the point of an emblem like this is instant recognizability. That goal is compromised if there is a lot of variation among the instances. The two most common suggestions are to remove the grid or change the orientation of the glider. Perhaps these variants might have been better, or there is some other idea that would have been superior, but the benefit of having one emblem means it would be a bad idea to switch now that this one has a following. I will carry only images in which the plain-vanilla graphic at the top of this page is clearly recognizable.
